I have finally got my paediatric First Aid certificate for completing the course earlier this month. It was really daunting doing the course as they give you a doll which is the size and weight of a baby to practise on. Leaving my seven month old baby at home was tricky enough but watching these life size dolls get thrown around made me cringe! However, once we got used to the dolls the course was incredibly helpful. I thought I was quite well informed on this subject but I learned so much about allergens, CPR and common childhood illnesses. I really would recommend it to all parents but, as a childminder, I now feel confident that if I was looking after a child who used an epi-pen or suffered a seizure I'd know exactly what to do. I did the course with Tigerlily who are a not-for-profit agency. It was £95 for a 12 hour course which consisted of 7 hours practical training (nice hotel, unlimited coffee and biscuits-score!) and an online course which you can return to at any time. Now time to buy my first aid supplies!
